Arsenal step up Raphinha chase but where SHOULD he go?
By Joel Edkins
Tottenham or Chelsea late to Raphinha party?
Both Tottenham and Chelsea are late to the list of interested parties. The former have wasted no time in supplying Antonio Conte with the tools to continue from the success of his appointment in 2021/22.
The signings of Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster have been confirmed while they are progressing in talks for Middlesbrough wing-back Djed Spence.
A centre-back and attacker are next on Daniel Levy’s list of priorities. With Tottenham also employing a counter-attacking approach, Raphinha again fits the mould.
Although, the rise of Dejan Kulusevski partnered with Heung-min Son and Harry Kane’s necessity for inclusion would likely restrict the prominence of his role.
Chelsea are still awaiting clarity regarding their ownership which makes it difficult to predict the freedom with which they’ll go about their business this summer.
Thomas Tuchel’s attacking options aside from Mason Mount failed to provide reliable sources of output last season which could force the Blues to pursue the potential of Raphinha’s signing. Through analysing the German manager’s tactics, however, a possession-based approach may limit his efficacy.
