Gleison Bremer makes intentions clear amid Chelsea and Tottenham interest

Target of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and both Milan clubs Gleison Bremer has issued a ‘come and get me’ call amid links away from current side Torino.

Bremer, a right-sided central defender, has enjoyed a steady four years in the Serie A since arriving from Brazilian outfit Atlético Mineiro.

His defensive attributes speak for themselves with the 25-year-old ranking in the 99th percentile for successful pressures, passes blocked and interceptions among representatives of his position in the Italian top-flight in 2021/22.

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Bremer spoke candidly regarding his future beyond the summer transfer window.

"“I had already told the manager and the club last year that I was going to leave,” he explained concerning Torino manager Ivan Jurić.“Jurić said to me, ‘Stay, help the team. Next year you will take the next step’. Everyone knows my ambitions, I want to play in the Champions League. It’s a matter of time, I’m evaluating several proposals. Yet to be capped at international level, Bremer’s comments suggest clubs targeting the Brazilian native have gone a step beyond purely interest.

Antonio Conte and Tottenham are admirers but aren’t thought to have submitted anything concrete. Chelsea on the other hand are claimed to have made an offer, the Express understands.

Is Gleison Bremer better suited to Chelsea or Tottenham?

Chelsea is the obvious choice for Bremer considering their need for reinforcements at centre-back with first-choice options Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger leaving for Spain.

Captain Cezar Azpilicueta is expected to follow, leaving manager Thomas Tuchel in dire straits regarding options for his system which includes three centre-backs.

Bremer’s positional awareness and mobility owe well to the German’s possession-based pressing style of play which often leaves the Blues open on the counter-attack.

The recovery pace of Rudiger masked this vulnerability previously and that aspect is one the aforesaid could be adept at replacing.

In possession isn’t one of Bremer’s strong suits, however. Although not a glaring weakness, his passing statistics are fairly average in comparison to his counterparts.

This factor owes to Bremer potentially suiting Antonio Conte’s pragmatic approach. That being said, an ability to pass under pressure is essential with Tottenham often inviting pressure to engineer counter-attacks.

In reference to this, passing under pressure is a stronger area of Bremer’s passing, with him ranking in the 86th percentile with 6.7 per 90 minutes.

Conte was able to work miracles with an unfamiliar 3-back of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies last season but at least one new addition to the position will arrive in the summer.

Along with Bremer, Villarreal’s Pau Torres, and Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka have been cited as options higher-ups at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are looking to explore.

How much will Torino demand for Gleison Bremer?

With his contract not due to expire until 2024, Torino are expected to demand a fee of £34m to allow Bremer to leave.

At just 25 years of age, the deal appears attractive for both Premier League clubs interested with the player moving into his prime years.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea may have to act quickly as Fabrizio Romano reports Inter Milan have gotten the edge in the race. According to Romano the Nerazzurri have had personal terms agreed with Bremer since January although an agreement between the two clubs hasn’t been reached.
