Bye-Bye Sadio Mané: Liverpool and Bayern Agree to Deal Worth £35.1m

Liverpool respects Sadio Mané’s wishes after agreeing to a deal with Bayern Munich despite it being below the £40m they evaluated him at; the fee is a reported £35.1m for the Senegalese star.

Personal teams were already agreed to long ago, and it was just a matter of when the Reds and die Bavarians were ready to meet on terms for the world-class winner.

The structured of the deal will see the German champs paying an initial fee of £27.5m and then a further 5m based on appearances; added to this, another £2.5m in add-ons in individual and team achievements.

Sadio Mané Leaves Liverpool a Legend

The African Cup of Nations winner really was the one that kick-started the Jurgen Klopp era, being the German’s first transfer as the Liverpool manager in the summer of 2016. Many, if not all pundits and fans, frowned upon Mané’s arrival, wanting Mario Gotze instead.

During his six-year stay at Anfield, Mané was almost always present and a fit figure. He was barely injured and one for clutch moments. He featured 265 times under Kloop, scoring 120 goals and providing 38 assists.

As much as Liverpool must be thankful for the African, the African must count his blessing that he had the chance to play under one of the best managers in the game today, Jurgen Klopp. Mané was able to join the 100 club in the Premier League just before bidding farewell this summer.

He reached the milestone against Watford in what was a 5-0 thrashing over the Hornets. He was the third African player to reach the milestone, joining Mohamed Salah and overtaking Chelsea’s Didier Drogba.

He leaves the club having won everything there is to win and most importantly leaves as a club legend and potentially a Premier League legend, epitomising what it is to be a party starter. Also with Sadio leaving, the iconic number 10 jersey has been freed up at Anfield. Whoever comes in next has some big shoes to fill.

He will now join one of the biggest clubs in football and the biggest club in the German Bundesliga. He will also get to continue his goalscoring record in the Champions League, with him being the highest-scoring African in the knockout stages, another feat he reached while in the red and white of Liverpool.

Liverpool have already acquired the services of Mané’s replacement, having announced the arrival of Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a club-record fee of £85m. He will be Klopp’s player for the next six years.
