According to recent reports, Manchester United and Arsenal are considering a bid for FC Porto midfielder Vitinha; he has a release clause worth €40million in his contract which could be the major factor in both clubs pursuing him this summer.
Vitor Ferreira, also known as Vitinha had previously joined Wolves on loan in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season. Due to constraints brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, Wolves turned down the chance to buy him for €24 million. After a rather disappointing season at the Molineux, the Portuguese international returned to FC Porto with a point to prove.
Vitinha is an exciting midfielder
Vitinha has since played a key role in FC Porto’s title-winning campaign this season past, scoring twice and providing 3 assists as a central midfielder, making 47 appearances across all competitions this season.
As a result, the FC Porto academy graduate has already established himself in Portugal’s senior team as the World Cup in Qatar edges closer.
Vitinha has enjoyed a 90% pass completion rate in the Primera Liga and the Europa League in 2021/22. He has also impressed at the U19 and U21 competitions for Portugal as well.
Manchester United Have Been Consistently Rumoured to Be In for Vitinha
Manchester United have been heavily linked with the FC Porto midfielder in recent weeks after news surfaced that talks were held between agent Jorge Mendes and the club representatives.
The Red Devils are currently facing issues over signing FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and may look to the 22-year-old as a cheaper alternative. De Jong is determined to stay at the Camp Nou, with Barca coming out and saying no financial difficulties are forcing them to sell their best players this transfer window.
Vitinha is extremely versatile and can play in multiple midfield positions. The main concern however would be how he adapts to the Premier League under new manager Erik Ten Hag. Ideally, the club should be looking at a specialist midfielder other than a makeshift one.
The Red Devils are also looking at Ruben Neves from Wolves. They have also made an offer for Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.
Another Club Interested in Vitinha Is Arsenal
Mikel Arteta will hope to complete deals as soon as possible after Arsenal missed out on Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, who is now joining Tottenham.
The Gunners are looking at Vitinha from FC Porto and Youri Tielemans from Leicester City as a solution to their midfield issues.
Vitinha will undoubtedly improve the Gunners, providing competition for Odegaard as well as Sambi Lokonga, Thomas Partey, and Xhaka in the central midfield area.
The Vitinha deal is just a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’. Whichever club he does end up at after the window concludes is surely getting a top-drawer player with immense potential to be one of the very best.
