It’s Done! Confirmation Liverpool Have Sealed the Deal for Darwin Nunez
Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Benfica for their star striker, Darwin Nunez. The pair of clubs will sit down in the morning, sign paperwork and finally conclude the recording-breaking transfer of €80m plus €20m in add-ons.
Fabrizio Romano is the one man every fan waits for to tweet confirmation about a potential sale or purchase. That’s exactly what all Reds have been waiting for since learning of their beloved Liverpool’s interest in signing one of Europe’s biggest talents.
Now It has happened, those three little words that mean so much have been uttered by the transfer guru himself, “Here we go”. Regardless of how confident everything has looked over the course of the past few days, everything pointing at a Reds-Nunez transfer, Liverpool fans did not celebrate prematurely.
The burn of the Virgil van Dijk transfer fiasco in 2017 is still felt, and so is the bitter taste of other missed signings when they watched the best in the world choose their rivals over Anfield.
Now Liverpool prep an €80m plus €20m in add-ons to pay for a player who is 22 years old and will sign a long-term deal of five years long. In his 74 appearances for the Eagles, he scored 43 goals and collected 14 assists. He is a real threat in front of goal.
"Liverpool are now closing on Darwin Núñez deal, here we go! Meeting in the morning with verbal agreement in place between Liverpool & Benfica, just waiting to sign. €80m plus €20m add ons fee. #LFC Liverpool are preparing paperworks. Five year contract, already agreed."
Who Would Have Thought Liverpool Was in for Darwin Nunez?
As reported earlier in the week by The Top Flight: the Reds were not even interested at first but after catching wind of Manchester United’s appeal, acted instantly and started building their case to sign the Uruguayan.
Now reports claim Darwin Nunez is on route to Europe to complete his medical and sign paperwork with his new club; he was also excluded from Uruguaya’s squad to take on Panama in an international friendly, further confirming a deal is complete between the Premier League club and Liga Portugal club.
Update: Darwin Nunez has not participated in the Panama friendly as they do not want to risk an injury and his move from Benfica to Liverpool falls through.
Other Liverpool insider, James Pearce, tweeted:
"Liverpool are trying to persuade Benfica to accept an up-front fee for Darwin Núñez of closer to £60 million.Discussions between Liverpool’s sporting director Julian Ward and his Benfica counterpart Pedro Marques are in progress over the structure of the transfer fee for the Uruguay international.(Via: @_pauljoyce)"
The Reds Are Far From Done in the Transfer Market After Darwin Nunez Transfer
Liverpool will do more business after they get Nunez to sign on the dotted line. They are as close to signing their backup right-back, Calvin Ramsay, as they are with the Darwin deal.
There have also been links with Barcelona’s Gavi, who has been in a contract standoff with the club. As long as he continues to deny a new deal, Liverpool will continue to push for a transfer. Klopp is a huge admirer of the central midfielder and wants him on the Merseyside shores.
Sadio Mane, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Sadio Mane are all still rumoured to leave Anfield before the summer window shuts. Sales might not also stop there with fringe players also seeking regular game time.
