Liverpool feels confident about landing their long-term right-back target, Calvin Ramsay, from Aberdeen. The player is said to be eager to move to Merseyside for the opportunity to play under Jurgen Klopp.

While all eyes have been on Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and his potential move to either Manchester United or Liverpool, many other deals or potential transfers have gone under the radar. One such deal is the probable arrival of young 18-year-old, Calvin Ramsay.

Reports suggest a deal between the Reds and the Scottish Premiership club is yet to be completed but a fee of £4m plus add-ons is the rumoured amount the two clubs will settle on.

"Liverpool are increasingly confident they can capture the signature of Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay. The Reds have been tracking the 18-year-old right-back for some time as they look to provide backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold.And the FA Cup and League Cup winners are now expected to close in on a deal for the Scotland under-21 international, which is understood to be worth around £4million plus various add-ons.(Via: liverpoolecho.co.uk)"

At 18 years old and a right-back, it is not rocket science that Ramsay will come in as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s backup; the club have been operating for a while without a designated stand-in for Trent and have been using either James Milner as a makeshift RB or Joe Gomez in his more unnatural defensive position.

Regardless of his tender age, he featured 24 times (20 of them being starts) for Aberdeen in what was a fight for Premiership survival in the Scottish top flight. Thanks to a late push, Dundee suffered the drop. He scored one goal and collected four assists in his 24 appearances.

What Liverpool’s Transfer window should look like

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to add squad players to fill in the voids left by players such as Divock Origi and other fringe players that are looking for regular minutes on the pitch; players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Takumi Minamino, and the previously mentioned Gomez.

Their incomings give the idea the club has started building for the future. They have already signed  Fabio Carvalho who is 19, and now edging closer to finalising a deal for the player in discussion, Ramsay.

If Sadio Mane leaves and the Reds replace him with the 22-yeard-old Darwin Nunez, then that is another step towards looking after the future, short term and long term. If any of the above mentioned also leave Anfield, Klopp will surely want to replace them.

Although, he has shown his faith in the club’s youth and might end up sticking with what he got.
