Bayern Munich step up pursuit for Liverpool’s Sadio Mane
By Joel Edkins
Rumours linking Liverpool forward Sadio Mane with a summer move to Bayern Munich appear to be gathering pace, with the Bundesliga side thought to be preparing a bid.
Irrespective of the fact he is set to play on Europe’s biggest stage tonight, rumours surrounding Sadio Mane’s future are refusing to relent.
Mane is set to face Real Madrid tonight in the Champions League final as Liverpool look to avenge their demons of the 2018 edition, of which they lost to the same opponents.
Despite this and the potential impact it could have on the equilibrium inside manager Jürgen Klopp’s dressing room ahead of such a game, reports of a potential move away for the Senegal international are gathering pace.
The saga is more of a one-horse race as opposed to a tug of war, however, with German champions Bayern Munich the sole name being linked.
The low-down on the Sadio Mane Bayern links
Latest reports, as per the Liverpool Echo, suggest an agreement between Liverpool and the Bavarian giants concerning Mané could be closer than once thought.
The local publication state Bayern are ‘readying’ a bid in the region of £30m and describe a deal as ‘close’.
Alike teammate and fellow winger Mohamed Salah, Mane’s contract is due to expire upon the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, leaving higher-ups at Anfield stuck between a rock and a hard place.
To add to the confusion surrounding the transfer saga, while addressing the media ahead of tonight’s match at the Stade de France in Paris, the 2021 AFCON winner seemingly hinted at a positive outcome for Reds fans.
"“I think the answer I can give you now is I feel very good,” said Mane.“I am fully focused on Saturday’s game, that is the answer I must give before the final. But come back to me on Saturday and I will give you the best answer you want to hear, for sure. It’s special. I will give you all you want to hear then.“I love what I am doing and I sacrifice myself all the time. I am working hard every single day on the pitch and in the gym and I get better and better, that’s the most important. I am trying my best to help the team.”Via: BBC Sport"
In preparation for the eventuality that Sadio Mane, 30, alongside Mohamed Salah, 29, will depart in the coming years if not this, Klopp has drawn on his remarkable recruitment team to help bridge the gap between life with and without the dynamic duo.
This has arrived in the form of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, with the latter perhaps the most comparable of the two.
The pair have hit the ground running at Liverpool and at £41m and £37m respectively, are further examples of the club’s elite scouting network.
Assessing the Sadio Mane situation, the ball very much lies in his court. If he plans to sign a contract, one will be aptly tabled and if not then Liverpool might be forced to sell. However, both Mane and Salah leaving in the same summer just can’t happen.
