Player of the Season: If Sunday was the last time Raphinha plays for Leeds United, he has certainly left his mark on the club. His goal against Brentford proved crucial for the club’s survival and marked his 11th goal of the season. Even when his side were badly out of form, the flair and passion from Raphinha remained. With rumours about a move to Barcelona abound, the club could see a massive cash influx, a parting gift from their star Brazilian winger.

Flop of the Season: While much of Leeds’ struggles were injury-related  (Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford), Junior Firpo’s struggles are not explained away by his injuries. Signed from Barcelona in the summer, Firpo led the Premier League in yellow cards with 11 in 24 appearances, while only contributing 2 assists in attack. Leeds will surely be exploring their options at fullback this summer.

Signing of the Season: Leeds bought Jack Harrison on a permanent deal following his excellent loan spell in 2020-21, and while he did take a step back this season, with only 8 goal contributions compared to 16 in the previous year, he still provided a solid option in the attack for Leeds. Furthermore, when his team needed him most, he provided an extra-time winner against Brentford on the final day to ensure another top-flight season.

Surprise of the Season: Jesse Marsch had major shoes to fill taking over from Marcelo Bielsa, and many thought Leeds were destined for the bottom three after his appointment. However, his arrival saw him guide Leeds through a rough stretch of the season to finish above the relegation zone, with multiple points earned from stoppage-time goals. While his tenure has seen its fair share of issues, he will have another season at the helm.

Rating 4/10: You would have to consider this year a significant step back for Leeds, as many pundits predicted they would be pushing for a European spot. In the end, the club avoided a worst-case scenario of relegation, but this season was far from successful. A 4/10 rating fits the bill with some significant changes needed in the offseason.
