Brentford’s Player of the Season: Ivan Toney

Without a discussion, Ivan Toney is the Player of the Season for Brentford. After helping Brentford secure promotion in 2020/21, Ivan Toney set the EPL stage on fire. The highest goalscorer for the Bees, Ivan Toney featured in 32 games scoring 12 goals and five assists.

Flop of the Season: Frank Onyeka

Thomas Frank will be disappointed with Frank Onyeka’s performances in 2021/22. Brentford spent €10 million to secure the services of the midfielder in the summer, but the player did not live up to the hype.

In 20 games for Brentford, he could not add any goals or assists to his name. The Nigerian international did not look comfortable whenever he was on the pitch. He will be hoping for a turnaround in form in the 2022/23 season.

Most Improved Player of the Season: Bryan Mbuemo

Bryan Mbuemo had a few poor games in the middle of Brentford’s 2021/22 campaign but broke the goal and assists drought whenever the team required.

Though his numbers reduced compared to his EFL Championship, Bryan Mbuemo accumulated 11 G/A in his first-ever PL campaign. Also, the player scored a hattrick in the FA Cup game against Port Vale in the third round.

Unsung Hero: David Raya

Every player played a huge role in Brentford’s success in 2021/22. However, it is David Raya‘s contribution between the sticks that goes unnoticed. The Spaniard featured in 24 games for Brentford throughout the season despite missing a few months due to a knee injury.

His crucial performance of the season came against Liverpool where he not only denied the Reds from taking all the points but also launched long balls, which troubled opposition defenders. After the 3-3 draw, Jurgen Klopp praised the player:

"Their goalie should have the number 10 on his shirt with the balls that he played (Via Metro)"

Brentford’s Signing of the Season: Christian Eriksen

After suffering from cardiac arrest in Euro 2020, everyone, including doctors, had ruled Eriksen out of the game for the rest of his life. However, he staged a spectacular comeback with the Bees.

In 10 games for Brentford in the PL, the Denmark international had 5 G/A to his name. The player marshaled the midfield with his creativity against Chelsea in GW 31.

Team ratings: 7.5/10
