Thank You Ole: A letter from a Manchester United fan to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
By Varun Aithal
Thank you Ole Gunnar Solskjaer!
"Manchester United announces that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager. Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.(via: Manchester United)"
It is not rocket science that why the club parted ways with you. We, Manchester United, were going through a rough patch, a series of humiliating losses, making this inevitable. I agree with the club as it decided to mutually part ways with you. However, this is a heartfelt letter to you, appreciating whatever the best you have done for the club during your tenure.
That night in Paris!
We lost 2-0 in the first leg at home in the Champions League Round of 16 back in 2019. We would have failed but you inspired the team to stage a strong comeback.
When you told us in the press conference that “Mountains are there to be climbed, aren’t they”, we thought you were kidding us. Yet, that night will have a special place in my heart. It will be a game to remember as we made it to the next round, despite not being the favorite.
The academy, transfer windows and the return of the “Lost son”
Because of the absence of Champions League football, we failed to get the best players. And in the squad, we had some old remains and deadwood who failed to reach their peak. Getting rid of them had become increasingly difficult. However, you sold and clear all the deadwood over the transfer windows you were in charge of. Also, Thank You Ole for bringing in the wage discipline within the club.
The academy was broken. The players struggled to make it to the senior squad. You brought in so many youngsters to the squad. Players like Mason Greenwood, Anthony Elanga and Hannibal have left an impression on the pitch. Thank You Ole for redefining the tagline “Youth, Courage and Success”.
The Manchester United “Lost son”
Cristiano Ronaldo is an emotion for every Red Devil. Every summer, it was a dream to see him play once again in the Manchester United Red.
You made it happen with the situation helping us out. Sadly, we cannot see you holding a title with him at Old Trafford. Thank you Ole for getting back our “Lost Son” to Stretford End.
People will disregard the work you have done at Old Trafford. The hot seat is troublesome. There was progress for sure with those beautiful evenings and nights with some extremely poor lows. You backed every player when they were being mortified for their poor displays on the turf.
Unfortunately, these players failed to step up in crucial games, aiding in you failing to deliver any silverware in the two and half years you were at the helm.
You dug us out of the Jose trenches, really hoped that you were going to be the guy to take us back to the glory days. It did not end the way you and I wanted. Nevertheless, you have done a great job. You’ll forever be a legend, Ole. This chapter will not dent your legacy.
Thank you again for the good times in the last two and half seasons,
A hardcore Manchester United fan,
