Manchester United completed the sensational return of talisman and perennial goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford earlier this week. The move adds one of the world’s best players to a team crying out for a finisher while bringing back one of the United faithful’s favourite sons.

So far this season, the Red Devils have come up with results, despite poor performances. They dominated Leeds United on opening day, but then stuttered, drawing with Southampton, and just getting past Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United have been in dire need of a number one striker for a while now, and despite having players like Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial, neither have been able to step up to the plate, be that through injury or lack of consistency.

Ronaldo has been that goalscorer for many years now. Since leaving United in 2009 for Real Madrid, the Portuguese player has slowly moved from a winger to a central striker, this is the position that Ronaldo will most likely occupy when he plays at Old Trafford.

The likes of Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood will be looking to create chances for the striker and get United moving up top.

Ronaldo has scored 30+ goals in 11 of his last 12 seasons, he scored 28 in all competitions when he last moved to a new league – it’s no secret he can be the leader up top that the Red Devils need.

At 36, Ronaldo will not be a long-term fix, but one that will undeniably please fans and hopefully give them the edge in winning trophies once again.
