Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI threw everyone off!

Divock Origi and Joe Gomez being named by Klopp in the starting XI took all by surprise and if his boys didn’t collect all three points, the manager would have been considered foolish for starting them and not the likes of Virgil van Dijk, who was sat on the bench as an unused sub.

Thankfully, Origi was on hand to lay up Salah for Liverpool’s equaliser, adding an assist to his name in his first start for the club this season – if he didn’t have a goal involvement – it would have been seen as a poor decision by the German to bring the Belgian in, in such a crucial game.

Fikayo Tomori was kept busy by Origi and it was a great dual between the duo, Tomori however, had answers for him all night and did well to keep the Liverpool striker goalless; the only time he failed was when he allowed the assist for Salah.

It was more surprising to see Joel Matip partner the returning Joe Gomez, but it wasn’t too surprising to see the Reds concede two goals. Gomez gave the impression he was a bit rusty and how he lasted 90 minutes in his first game back after 10 months out of action, was truly remarkable.

The one question that was answered was that… Liverpool can get three points without VVD but it takes a lot more effort to get the win over the line.
