The clash of titans between Liverpool and AC Milan at Anfield epitomised what the Champions League is all about; missed opportunities could come back to haunt you like it almost did for Mo Salah after missing a penalty.

Thankfully, the skipper, Jordan Henderson was on hand to save the day; he scored Liverpool’s third goal and the fifth and final of the game. Despite the home side enjoying almost all of the ball, there was still little to separate the European giants.

Liverpool looked the fitter, sharper, hungrier, and more experienced, compared to their opponents. They had 62% ball possession and the visitors were limited to 38% ball possession. The home side also recorded 192 more passes than the Italians – displaying their dominance in the game – a dominance they didn’t use to punish their Champions League opponents with.

Group B’s Matchday 1 results

Group B’s Matchday 1 results prove this is the Champions League “Group of Death” and it will be a tough ask to win the group. The other encounter between Atlético Madrid and FC Porto had no goals scored and a point was shared between the two Group B contenders.

Liverpool narrowly leads Group B; they are ahead of the next team by two points only. Milan falls all the way to the bottom of the group standings, showcasing even more how important it would have been to collect a point at Anfield for their valiant efforts.
