Two Premier League games in and Arteta could be the first to get sacked
Two losses endured, four goals conceded and most worryingly, no goals scored this season for Arsenal in the early stages of the English Premier League; this horrendous start, which is also the worst in the club’s top-flight history I may add, has called Mikel Arteta’s position as manager into question.
In all fairness, questions have been asked about Arteta long before the season kicked off, and what has been going on in North London, has the fans up in arms and the Gunners sitting second-last in the Premier League standings.
Mikel Arteta undisputedly moves to the top of the list of managers to get sacked first
Looking at the table and there really is only two managers who could be in the hot seat this early and that is the man mentioned above and Newcastle Untied’s Steve Bruce.
The latter has far more to be concerned about having his team concede as many as eight goals in two games – but funny enough, they have scored two goals already – that’s two more than the other two sides in the bottom three.
The former’s situation, as mentioned earlier, is unfamiliar for a team that is regarded as one of the usual “top-six” – the opening day loss will haunt them forever.
For the Canaries, well, they were always forecasted to be flying against the wind this season and were one of the predicted clubs to get relegated after the season concludes. Daniel Farke strangely is safe having just signed a new four-year contract in July this year.
This poor form that has seen the Gunners take losses throughout the preseason and the start of the EPL campaign has forced the owners to start considering their options – they have also reportedly given the former Manchester City coach until October’s international break – that’s five games away to try and get his mojo back.
Are five games enough to turn things around for Mikel Arteta?
All English Premier League
The next five fixtures for Arsenal were discussed here, “Will it get better for Arsenal after two losses from two played?”
I mention in the post that a little bit of time is all that is needed and trying to turn things around in their league run this weekend coming might prove to be too difficult, seeing they play Manchester City. Thereafter, returning first-team players should be up to speed and more winnable matches come their way.
If it doesn’t happen over the next five encounters, which involve a Carabao Cup clash against West Brom on Wednesday night, Antonio Conte is being recognised as the priority manager target.
The Italian, who is also a Serie A winner and Premier League winner, is still out of a job following his termination/departure from Inter Milan following their league-winning campaign.
