Leicester City: Brendan Rodgers gets his long-term full-back target
Free agent Ryan Bertrand is a free agent no more. Leicester City and the English full back have agreed to a two-year deal with an option to extend by a third year inserted into the deal.

Ryan Bertrand, at the end of June, called an end to his Southampton career after seven years with the club. He signed for the St. Mary’s outfit permanently back in 2015 following a successful loan spell in 2014/15 with them.
A deal undisclosed when it took place but was later reported to be around £10m was agreed to between his old club Chelsea and the Saints – the deal was four and half years long.
The reason for him staying at Southampton was because of the promise shown at the time at St. Mary’s and because he was struggling to break into Chelsea’s starting XI consistently. The Saints, run by Ronald Koeman at the time, was finishing in the top half of the table – either placed sixth, seventh, or eighth.
Why Ryan Bertrand has chosen to bring his South Coast journey to an end
All English Premier League
It just hasn’t improved over recent years on the South Coast with the most promising developments only coming during last season under Ralph Hasenhüttl – they were on top of the league for a week and that’s about it.
That was in the beginning stages of the league campaign and as the season grew older, did Southampton show signs of no advancements once again.
Fair play for finally beating teams like Liverpool and other Premier League giants, but a 15th-place finish is the best they could manage. They’ve been unable to finish in the top half of the standings for the past five years.
Brendan Rodgers has always wanted Bertrand even before his Leicester days
Now that chapter is done and a new one kicks off with a new club in Leicester City, who let’s face it, has a better chance of making a Champions League spot or even going all the way to upset and win the league.
Rodgers has longed to have the 31-year-old in his ranks. While at Liverpool and before Ryan moved to Southampton, he wanted him to join him but the project at Anfield never interested him enough to make the switch over to Merseyside.
The Foxes have been busy in the window with the Englishman the second summer signing after Patson Daka joined from Red Bull Salzburg for £23m.
