It appears that Leicester City are pulling the right strings during the summer transfer window with the news of Patson Daka’s decision to choose them over Liverpool and Leipzig.

Leicester City could have won the race but a deal is far from confirmed, however, the club is confident one will be struck soon.

In the opening stages of the summer window and prior, it was believed that Liverpool will look to bring in extra firepower to either fight for a starting spot or to act as a backup to the famous Reds front three.

Other than Liverpool, the sister club and Bundesliga outfit Leipzig, were obviously after him as they love to use the other Red Bull club as a feeder team.

The Zambian’s decision could be to not follow others before him to Germany and could have set his sights on the Premier League with Leicester City the destination. However, a deal is said to be agreed in principle with the other Red Bull club.

What will the transfer for Paston Daka cost the Foxes?

A Daka trade would set the Foxes back by a reported €35 million – a transfer fee they’d be happy to pay with all the change they have leftover from their amazing business and sales in the past.

Why you get the impression they are serious in their attempt to sign Paston is the fact they’ve offered an extra €10m for the striker. Leipzig and Salzburg were said to be close to agreeing on €25m.

In return, this does display the room Leicester has to play around in with their transfer bids. Their pockets are deep and they will go all out to get their man it seems.

"Despite an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig, Patson Daka appears to prefer a move to the Premier League. The striker has been heavily linked with a move to Leicester City. The Telegraph reported on Thursday that talks between Leicester and Red Bull Salzburg have advanced and that a deal in the region of €35 million has been accepted."

The funny part in all of this, despite only costing the English side €35 if the deal goes through, he will be RB Salzburg’s record sale.

"The proposed fee would be a new record departure for RB Salzburg. The fee would also represent more than what RB Leipzig had expected to pay for the striker. (Via: transfermarkt.us)"

All-in-all, this sounds like great business for all parties involved – the only teams to lose out here are Leipzig and Liverpool.

Patson Daka has been a prolific goalscorer for the past two seasons

Daka has been plying his trade in the Austrian Bundesliga for the past four seasons but it really has been the last two terms that have caught the eye of many European giants and others around the continent.

In back-to-back campaigns, 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, the 22-year-old has amassed a goal contribution of 61 goals. The former hitting 24 goals and collecting six assists and the latter, 27 goals and four assists.

That’s crazy numbers and screams of a player begging for a move to a top club in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. Leicester City is looking for their long-term Vardy replacement and with the 2020/21 form of Kelechi Iheanacho, you’d think it will be him.

However, he plays best with a striking partner, something Rodgers benefitted from hugely – playing with two strikers up front, Vardy and Iheanacho. This is where the signing of Daka makes all the sense in the world.

Patson Daka is a top solution to an ageing Jamie Vardy – he is also a good option to have as an Iheanacho partner and backup. Quality in depth is what was missing in their push for a top-four finish last season.
