Brighton’s defender Ben White looks as if a summer move will be hard to resist with so many of Europe’s elite keeping a close eye on him.
While most of the transfer news ahead of the summer window is based on big-name players switching clubs, there is also the case of smaller clubs trying to keep hold of their top talent.
One such example can be seen with a situation that Brighton finds themselves in. One of their best young players, Ben White, is being linked with a host of European giants around the world.
Coming off a season where Brighton has barely avoided relegation, they will surely want to keep hold of their best young players. However, it will not be an easy task if some of these big clubs are to make their interest in Ben White concrete this summer.
Who is Ben White and what impact could he make for a new club?
All English Premier League
Ben White is a 23-year-old English center-back that plays for Brighton. This current Premier League season is his first as a full-time starter. He has impressed over the course of 33 appearances, which has caught the attention of some major clubs and the England National team.
Even before this, while on loan at Leeds United, he was key to their promotion in 2019/2020 and the reason they had the best defensive recorded that campaign. As with any promising young English player, he is going to be linked with every major Premier League club.
To be honest, most of the top ones could use a player with his skill set. Considering he now has a full Premier League season under his belt, now is the time where he could make a big-time move. The former Leeds loanee could become a major impact signing if he can realize his potential.
Which clubs are being linked with Ben White?
As previously mentioned, there are quite a few big-time Premier League clubs that are being linked with Ben White. Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been scouting White over the course of the season and could all be interested in bringing him in permanently.
Arsenal and Manchester United in particular could have major interest in him. Arsenal has had a season to forget and could be on the lookout for a center-back to bolster their defensive line. United could also be looking for a new defensive partner for Harry Maguire which could lead them to White.
Liverpool has had their own defensive struggles but that is mostly down to injury. As long as Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are healthy for next season they should be set at center back. With them also heavily in for RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate.
Clubs other than ones from England are also interested in Ben White. With Jose Mourinho moving to Roma, they have started to show an interest in the player and are said to have joined the race for him.
"Jose Mourinho hopes to beat his former club Manchester United to the signing of Ben White by tempting the Brighton defender to Roma this summer, say reports.the Serie A side will face stiff competition for the centre-back, as Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have already shown interest.PSG and Borussia Dortmund are among the other foreign clubs to have emerged as possible destinations for White, who impressed on loan at Leeds last season before returning to his parent club. It has also been rumored that he has caught the eye of Borussia Dortmund and PSG. Dortmund in particular already has an English contingent in the squad with Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham, so that could be an attractive destination for White.
