Yves Bissouma, a player nobody expected to be in the middle of a transfer tug of war this summer, has taken a step in a direction promising for Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City.

Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has put Premier League clubs and potential suitors on red alert. If a couple of days ago reports are accurate about the Seagull, a summer transfer is now a matter of when and not if.

The player has asked to leave at the end of the season, according to reports. No official transfer request has been handed in by the midfielder but it looks as if an exit is just a matter of timing.

The Times reports:

"Yves Bissouma has asked to be allowed to leave Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of the season amid interest from a trio of the Premier League’s wealthiest clubs.Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have all inquired about the availability of the Mali international as they seek to strengthen in midfield. Olympique Marseille are also exploring bringing the 24-year-old back to French football. (Via: thetimes.co.uk)"

Of all the clubs associated with a possible move for Yves Bissouma, the Gunners and Liverpool have been named more often than not – and the latter the most out of the two.

Why? They are searching for a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who is set to leave Anfield on a free by the time the summer window opens and his contract expires.

He has been the subject of a contract standoff and an exit since last summer. With each passing month, it is clear the Dutchman is set on departing, this is why the Reds are so closely linked with Bissouma.

Manchester City are just being linked with a lot of players and quite frankly, the middle of the park is the last place that needs work.

The now, recently re-crowned champions of English for the third time in the last four years need to succeed the outgoing Sergio Aguero – indicating where the priority is for Man City this transfer window.

If the reports are correct, where would be best for Yves Bissouma to go; Arsenal or Liverpool?

There is no denying and debating that Liverpool and Manchester City are the best options from the trio of EPL clubs linked to him.

There are plenty of playing opportunities at both Anfield and the Emirates but it is on Merseyside where they need a player of his attributes more and where he will get to play under one of the best managers in the league at the moment.

At the Etihad, there will be limited minutes on the pitch, which will have a stuttering effect on his development – but the manager situation will be the same as he will play under the current Premier League winning manager, Pep Guardiola.

Mikal Arteta started like a house on fire in his first full season in charge of Arsenal. He just hasn’t shown enough that the Gunners will be the best option of the lot. However, it is being said that Arsenal are the closest to signing him.

This will be the best news for Gooners who are feeling the pain of another unsuccessful campaign after missing out on silverware and Champions League football. For Liverpool fans, not so much.
