Tottenham identify ten Hag, Southgate as managerial targets
Tottenham haven’t exactly had the best season in their history. They currently sit 7th in the Premier League, knocked out of the FA Cup in the 5th round, lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City on Sunday, and were also knocked out of the Europa League in the Round-of-16 by Dinamo Zagreb. They sacked Jose Mourinho just days before the Carabao Cup final, and 29-year-old Ryan Mason has been doing the managerial work for the time being.
Things got a little worse on Tuesday morning as Daniel Levy’s supposed ‘top target’, Julian Nagelsmann — a guy who was wanted by Tottenham fans all over the world — signed a contract with Bayern Munich for the next five years. He will take over in July.
What’s the latest on Tottenham’s manager hunt?
Now, according to a report from The Telegraph, current ajax manager Erik Ten Hag will move up the list of managerial targets after Bayern’s signing of Nagelsmann.
It is also reported that they’re also looking at current England National Team manager Gareth Southgate. The Englishman is said to be “well-liked” at the club.
Tottenham are set to have a crucial summer ahead of them. Interim manager Ryan Mason is not the guy that can lead the club to success — well, not yet anyway. ten Hag, on the other hand, is known to be great at developing youngsters and helping them reach their full potential. He has done that before at Ajax with players like Matthijs De Ligt, Frenkie De Jong and Donny Van De Beek.
Tottenham also have some amazing players that could thrive under ten Hag. Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Steven Bergwijn are just some of the great players/talents that Tottenham have at their disposal, and it would be a joy to watch them get even better.
Of course, one of those players is rumoured to leave the club in the summer for greener pastures and that is Harry Kane. This is another reason why this next summer would be crucial for Tottenham’s successes or failures.

As we all know, Harry Kane is one of the best players in the world and the most important player in Tottenham’s system. Convincing him to stay during his prime years would be crucial in determining how far Tottenham can go next season and beyond.
It would also be a very difficult task as no player wants to spend their prime at a club that doesn’t compete for trophies as well as it can.
That’s where the appointment of Gareth Southgate could prove handy. Southgate has always been a fan of the player and he knows him well because of the time they spend together during international breaks with the English National team. He’s a good coach and can do great things with a team like Tottenham.
Now, if I had a choice, I’d probably go for Erik ten Hag because he’s a great tactician and knows how to bring the best out of young players, and how to improve the great players. I’m just not as hot on Gareth Southgate because I just haven’t seen enough from him. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
Either way, Tottenham will have to spend big and give the next manager the tools that he needs to improve this squad and lead them to success.
