Manchester United’s season – at least, according to the public – has neither been their best, nor their worst. The Red Devils have had their good moments. They’ve had some not so good moments and have also had terrible moments. One that stands out is the fact that they got knocked out of the Champions League group stages pretty embarrassingly.

But, they reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, although getting knocked out by Manchester City and Leicester City respectively. They’re in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, with one foot already in the semi-finals after they beat Granada 2-0 away from home in the first leg. So there are still chances of winning some silverware left. They play the second leg on Thursday.

They’re second in the Premier League, 11 points behind Manchester City but with a game in hand. They’re probably not going to win the league, but they probably won’t finish lower than second either. They have the joint least number of losses in the Premier League, second highest goals scored, third least conceded, second-highest goal differential. So, I wouldn’t call this a bad season. I wouldn’t call it good, either.

What is the one statistic that Manchester United have been outstanding at?

There is one thing about Manchester United this season that has really, really impressed me. Something that I didn’t expect Manchester United to top. That thing is, that they’ve been absolutely amazing at coming back into games. This is a team that just doesn’t really give up until the final whistle. The following statistic came to light after their recent win over Tottenham.

Yes. In all competitions, United won the most number of points from losing positions in all of Europe this season. That includes the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona. That is an amazing statistic!

You could make an argument that hey, if Manchester United really were that great, then they wouldn’t be in a losing position in the first place. And, yes, I agree. They’re not perfect in any way. Their defense still lacks in quality. However, one needs to realize how much determination and willpower it takes for teams to come back from losing positions.

Sometimes it’s overwhelming, and more often than not, it requires moments of magic from superstars of the highest calibre. It takes so much patience and calmness. Not everyone can do it, otherwise, there’d be more names on this list. And imagine this team a few years from now. The good players will only get better, and that alone should scare other top clubs as to how much this team can achieve later on.

I’m not saying that United are “the cream-of-the-crop” yet. They’re not the best team in the league, or even in their own city. But, it’s a work in progress, and I see a lot of potential in this team, granted they keep going in the right direction with their transfer decisions. They need to improve in defense, consistency, and a lot of other things. But keeping their cool in tough and losing situations is not one of them.
