Although it is technically the quiet time in between transfer windows there are still plenty of rumors floating around. One such rumor as of late is that a new Manchester City midfield target has popped up.
Manchester City tends to earmark certain players before the transfer window opens so they can try to bring them in as quickly as possible. So it is no surprise that they are being linked with another player.
Who is the new Manchester City midfield target?
Rumor has it that City is targeting Ismaël Bennacer of AC Milan. Bennacer is coming off the back of a fantastic season in 2019-20. But he has spent most of this current season out injured.

This summer could be an opportunity for Manchester City to bring in a player that they rate very highly for slightly less money due to his injuries and lack of game time.
At the same time, there are other big clubs taking a close look at Bennacer too. Real Madrid and PSG are two of the other European giants who are interested in him, among other teams as well.
It’s easy to see why he is getting all the attention he is based on his 2019-20 season and the fact that he’s only 23 years old.
Surely AC Milan will also be looking to keep their star player. Although they have performed quite well without him, he is still considered an important member of the squad.

How could the potential addition affect Manchester City?
Manchester City is blessed to have one of the best midfields in the entire world. In Kevin De Bruyne, İlkay Gündoğan, Rodri, and Fernandinho there is no shortage of talent.
But there is a possibility of Fernandinho retiring or moving on to another club in the near future. In the event of this happening at the conclusion of this season, bringing in a new defensive midfielder would be ideal.
Ismaël Bennacer would be a very nice player to have in the City midfield. He is a very sturdy tackler, so he could fill in a more defensive role.
