As it is with most of the top clubs in the world, Manchester City is always looking for the next wonderkid. It seems that they may have locked in on their next target.

That would be the relatively unknown Kayky from Brazil. In recent days, he has gone from unknown to being linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Who is Kayky that Manchester City are close to signing?

Kayky is a 17-year-old winger who plays for Fluminense in the Brasileirão. He is a highly-rated prospect in Brazil and has been seen as a potential future star.

Kayky has even been compared to Neymar, although that may be a bit of a stretch at this point in time. It has been rumored that the winger would not join Manchester City until 2022, where he would link up with their youth squad.

"Manchester City are close to sign 17 years old Fluminense talent Kayky for €10m + add ons [could reach around €17m in future], confirmed.Kayky will join Man City youth team only in 2022 if paperworks/work permit will be completed. Spanish clubs were also interested (Via: @FabrizioRomano)"

The Effect on Manchester City

This is a transfer move that likely won’t be felt for a few years at least. Manchester City is notoriously slow at bringing their top youth products into the first team.

For instance, it has taken up until recently for Phil Foden to finally breakthrough into the senior squad. Other examples are Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and recently departed Jayden Braaf, who left in January to join Serie A side, Udinese.

Both top talents but were unable to break into the first-team and rather left for more playing opportunities elsewhere. But in the short term, Man City did actually pay quite a bit to bring Kayky to the club.

It’s been rumored the transfer fee is somewhere in the range of 8-10 million with another 5-7 million in add ons. Also, if the deal is to be confirmed Manchester City will have beaten out a few top clubs for the player’s signature.

Both Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk had been linked with the player recently. This will be an interesting move to track in the coming months as more details will surely emerge.
