On Wednesday Everton announced the contract renewal of club captain, Lucas Dinge, keeping him at the club until the year 2025.

The buzz continues around Goodison Park. Following an important win over Merseyside rivals, Liverpool, they’ve now tired down Dinge to the club long-term.

The left-back has been a key figure on both ends of the pitch for the Toffees – this season and since he’s signed for the club back in 2018 from Barcelona.

In defence, he is an ever-present and determined character to win the ball to start up an attack while at the other end of the pitch, distributing the killer cross for his in-form striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

More from Everton

This season alone just confirmed why Carlo Ancelotti has selected him as the captain, and also why when he is missing from team selection, Everton struggle to pick up points.

"Lucas Digne has signed a new long-term contract with Everton, committing his future to the Club until the end of June 2025.The France international left-back says the Blues’ big ambition, coupled with the “love supporters show me every day”, made penning an extended deal an easy decision."

Lucas Dinge’s numbers this season for Everton

The French fullback has aided his team with six assists this season, scoring no goals. He is on route to equaling last season’s goal-contribution total of seven and one away from levelling his best in Toffee blue, which is eight.

He made 16 appearances this season, missing some crucial fixtures due to suspension and injury. Hopefully, he can stay fit for Ancelotti and they can keep building on their Merseyside derby triumph.

Digne in an interview with evertontv:

"The fans made me feel at home from the beginning, they showed me big love and created a song for me. It is something I really appreciate and it is very important for me to keep the stability. We have a big project with the Club and can reach something very good at the end of this season and for the next few years. I want to play in Europe and Everton is the best place to do that.I have seen the progress every year since joining the Club, we are building a strong team. When you sign for Everton, it is like an amazing wedding. You just have to do your best every day to show Evertonians the love you have for them. That is what I do.I want to show them what they give me and it is just amazing. It was clear in my mind that I want to continue with Everton."

Everton’s five points off a Champions League spot. They sit in seventh place in the EPL standings on 40 points. Their next EPL outing comes on Monday night at the start of the new month.

The chance of Champions League football for next season is still very much alive with a lot to play for heading into Matchday 26 on the timetable.
