Everton: Sean Dyche still keen on 19-year-old he failed to sign in summer
By Kian Long
Over the last few seasons, Everton have built quite the reputation for throwing money at overhyped players, only for them to flop at Goodison Park. Since his arrival in Merseyside, the renowned relegation-avoiding Sean Dyche has aimed to turn around this reputation.
However, there is one regret the English manager will have from the summer transfer window and that is not landing Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United. Now playing in the EFL Championship, Gnonto is still eyeing a lucrative move to the English top flight. In the summer, Sean Dyche did submit some bids to sign Gnonto, but to no great effect.
Everton remain interested in Wilfried Gnonto
According to the latest from Football Insider, Everton are still keen to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United and could be in for another race for the Italy international in January. Ageing at 19-years-old, he is seen as the ideal attacking future at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have had a poor start to the season. They have just one draw from their opening four fixtures and no wins. Playing at home today against title contenders Arsenal, it won’t get much easier for Sean Dyche. However, he’ll fancy his chances against Mikel Arteta, as this fixture replicates his first match in charge of Everton where he narrowly beat Arsenal.
Of course, when the January transfer window rolls around, there will be clubs lining up to sign Wilfried Gnonto. Too good for the second tier of English football, he is certainly due a move away. Therefore, Sean Dyche will have to react quickly and be efficient in his transfer business. Furthermore, the Toffees must be in a better position come the new year, to persuade Gnonto.
