More from Manchester United

Of late, the youngster has returned to form. However, this season is nothing to go by compared to his last season, where he displayed his true goalscoring qualities.

Once he got his chance, he took it emphatically. In his previous runout, the 19-year-old forward managed to finish 31 Premier League games for United while scoring 10 goals and assisting one.

He, like Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, helped his team secure Champions League football for this season. Sadly, it has not been the same, although, there have been many players that have seen a big dip in form across the two pandemic-struck campaigns.

This season he has been limited to 18 games, 12 of them coming on from the bench. He has also only scored one and assisted one.

Other than his dismal goal contribution in the Premier League, he has scored another three cup goals, with one cup assist.

What has been the contributing factors to Greenwood’s dip in form?

Mostly falling behind others in the pecking order and some problems while on international duty at the start of the season. It was proclaimed he was injured but many believed the youngster was facing some time off for breaking COVID-19 protocols.

Hopefully, he can build on his Liverpool goal, which was an important one, and try to close in on last season’s goal total of 10.

The manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his happy to have him sign a new deal:

"Mason is a fantastic talent and yet another fine example of the type of player that our Academy produces. He has made great progress this season, showing real maturity and adaptability to his game, which has seen him develop into one of the best young players in the country.Whilst it is easy for people outside of the club to forget that Mason is just 19, it is our job as coaches to ensure he reaches his phenomenal potential and every step we take is to help him along that path.Mason is naturally gifted and has a brilliant attitude; we know how important he is going to be for Manchester United over the coming seasons. Ole’s quite right in what he is saying. It’s quite easy to forget that Mason is 19 years of age and has already played at the highest level. He has a long footballing life ahead of him.

He has big boots to fill with him having the number 11 jersey but he can fill those boots from what we have seen from him in the past – when he was just introduced to top-flight football.
