David Silva is heading towards the end of his Manchester City career, but instead of spending millions to replace him, they have to turn to Phil Foden.

We’ve gotten so used to Manchester City turning towards the transfer market to improve their squad with massive signings, that it feels like second nature now.

When going into a transfer window, the question is always “Who will Manchester City spend £50 million on this summer?”, not “Will Manchester City spend £50 million on a player this summer?”.

It’s good that they are able to spend money and that top players want to join them, but it has created a poor habit of neglecting the youth academy in favor of signing other teams’ youth products for tens of millions.

The man to change that narrative, however, sits on Manchester City’s bench every week and has been doing the same for a few years now – Phil Foden. A player of immense talent that deserves to be starting week-in, week-out in the Premier League, and maybe even for England as well.

Us neutrals have been waiting patiently for Foden to get his chance to stamp his name in Pep Guardiola’s team sheet, but he has been in the shadow of De Bruyne, David Silva, and Gundogan for a few years now.

With David Silva’s Manchester City career nearing its end, however, along with their European ban set to make it difficult for them to sign and hold onto players, Phil Foden should be given his chance very soon.

After all, he’s done nothing but impress whenever given the opportunity, and David Silva most certainly is not the player he used to be. If Manchester City has the right values at heart, they will refrain from dipping into the market to sign a David Silva replacement, and simply hand the keys to Phil Foden instead.

Of course, the European ban is still subject to a strong appeal from Manchester City, but if it is not overturned, they might lose some of their stars.

Whoever is managing Manchester City next season must be able to give Phil Foden minutes on a regular basis. His natural talent is unbelievable, and he is simply waiting for someone to give him the green light to start impacting world football on a weekly basis.
