The Red Devils weren’t candidates to be fighting for the EPL title, but they have shocked the world by playing some really good soccer and are now in a dogfight for it.

They had a wonderful thirteen games undefeated streak going in the Premier League. This streak was broken on Wednesday evening by Sheffield United, the last-placed team on the EPL table.

Sheffield United had a great 2019-2020 season after they were just promoted back to the top flight and for many games, they were in the top 6. They ended up in 9th place just two points behind Arsenal. Unfortunately, this season has not been the same for the Blades.

They have played at a very low level for a large part of the current campaign and this was just their first away win, making it their second win overall in twenty games played. Their last win was against Newcastle on January 12th, the match ended 1-0 for the Blades.

Unexpected for Manchester United?

More from Manchester United

Now, going to the other side, this was an unexpected loss for Manchester United. They had a rough time the last time they played Sheffield at Bramall Lane, where they won 3-2 on December 17th. The scoreline displays just how well-contested the encounter was.

This was the 4th loss in 20 games for United. They lost a big opportunity to take back the summit. They’ve allowed their neighboring rivals Manchester City to keep the lead with one more point, and a game in hand over United.

Solksjaer would have to make some changes to his gameplay and game plan if he wants his team to win the next few games.

Next three games for the Red Devils:

  • Arsenal vs. Manchester United (9th place), January 30th
  • Manchester United vs. Southampton (11th place), February 2nd
  • Manchester United vs. Everton (7th place), February 8th

The Red Devils have some complicated games on their schedule and these games are very crucial on their road to becoming champions. The Gunners have worked their way back to their best and are climbing up the ladder.

They’ve already taken all three points from United in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. The two PL encounters that follow, Man United have taken all the spoils and collect six points against the Saints and the Toffees.

We’ve reached the stage in the campaign where every game becomes a must-win. Players would need to play at a high level since they are facing some of the best teams in the league this season in the next three games.

It is not going to be an easy task but if they want to win the EPL, something that the club has not achieved since the 2012-2013 title, these games are very important to win for the club.
