Everton turns their attention elsewhere following Chelsea’s Tomori block
After a good start to the season for Fikayo Tomori, Chelsea’s now become unlikely to sanction a loan move for the defender.
Everton must search elsewhere for a centre back now that Frank Lampard is relucent to let Fikayo Tomori go out on loan. The player is in need of regular first-team minutes on the pitch and was ready to make the switch to Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees.
Tomori was paired with debutant Thiago Silva on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup clash, and the pair managed to keep it neat and tidy at the back, collecting a clean sheet in the Blues 6-0 victory over Barnsley. Afore this, he was thrown in the deep end and had the difficult task of filling the void left by Andreas Christensen who was issued a red card against Liverpool.
Yes, his side lost 2-0 to the champions but he and Kurt Zuma managed the backline well enough to keep Chelsea in the game for the last 45 minutes of the second half. If they didn’t squander golden opportunities, they would have actually walked away with a point for the least.
This has left Frank Lampard with a tough task of convincing Fikayo to stay and promise consistent first-team minutes. After announcing the arrival of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy on Thursday, things could be a lot more locked up at the back if he does choose to listen to his boss. Adding to this, Christensen did not do badly before receiving his marching orders.

In return, this has left the Toffees without a target or has forced them to shift their attention to somebody else. Everton is said to be back in for Jean-Clair Todibo, who is also a Fulham target. Chelsea’s London rivals have submitted an €18m bid for Todibo and are waiting for a response from Barcelona.
The Merseyside outfit have previously named him as a target but no move materialised early on in the window. But Barca is ready to listen to loan and/or permanent offers for the 20-year-old. Everton hopes Goodison Park is the place he ends up at.
Worryingly, Todibo has many options with Rennes also enquiring about his services. If Everton doesn’t make their move quick enough, they could lose him to another club.
"RMC Sport report that Premier League newboys Fulham have submitted an €18m offer to Barcelona today to sign French central defender Jean Clair Todibo.Ligue 1 side Rennes have in recent hours activated their network to attempt to sign the 20-year-old, with Sporting Director Florian Maurice having given the ex-Toulouse man a call last week. They too have gotten off to a flying start, winning each of the opening games, as well as progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
