The Red Devils are keen on bolstering their defensive options this summer.
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon, who spent the season on loan at Sevilla. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left short of options in that area once Luke Shaw suffered an ankle injury.
Coming through the ranks at Real Madrid, Sergio Reguilon has failed to establish himself among the Galactico squad as coach Zinedine Zidane has been left unimpressed with the left-back. Instead, Los Blancos signed Ferland Mendy to compete with Marcelo for a starting spot.
Sergio Reguilon has elevated his performances under the tutelage of Julen Lopetegui during the loan spell with Sevilla. The 23-year-old has garnered interest from the likes of Chelsea, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Napoli.
Facing steep financial challenges due to the pandemic, Real Madrid chiefs are willing to sell a number of superstars to shed the load off the wage bills and pare the bloated squad. After allowing James Rodriguez and Dani Ceballos to leave, Sergio Reguilon could be next in the exit queue.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to address the left-back position as the Man United squad was left thin in that position after Luke Shaw’s injury. Brandon Williams filled the Red Devils’ defence but was targeted on multiple instances owing to his inexperience at the elite-level of football. Diogo Dalot, despite being match-fit, has found it difficult to break into the first team.
The left-back was not on Solskjaer’s shopping list this summer, but the interesting developments around Sergio Reguilon have tempted the Man United chiefs to tinker their strategy. It is believed that Real Madrid would demand around €25m-€30m for the emerging talent.

As per recent reports from AS, Sevilla officials are interested in retaining Sergio Reguilon via another loan deal. The player is happy to continue his development at the Andalusian club in hopes of making it into Real Madrid’s first-team plans. However, Man United’s interest has prompted the Spanish defender to weigh up his future options.
Manchester United are yet to make an official approach to Real Madrid for the signing of Sergio Reguilon. The dialogues could prove to be tricky given Los Blancos’ desire to insert a buy-back clause to orchestrate any future decision regarding the Spaniard.
Certainly, Man United won’t entertain those demands having pulled out on signing Erling Haaland for the same reason. It would be intriguing to witness how discussions progress should the Red Devils approach Real Madrid to sign Sergio Reguilon.
