Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign a solid partner for Harry Maguire this summer.
Manchester United are exploring the option to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan as the search continues to find an intimidating defender to feature alongside Harry Maguire next season. The hopes to sign Dayot Upamecano fades with RB Leipzig unwilling to entertain offers.
Milan Skriniar, since his move from Sampdoria, has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Serie A and perhaps Europe. The progress was expected to accelerate further under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, but the Slovakian has failed to set the ground running in Italian tactician’s five-defender system.
Despite Skriniar’s immense potential, Inter Milan are willing to part company, albeit reluctantly, with the centre back as Conte eyes an experienced figure to feature in his backline. The Nerazzurri chiefs have tested the waters with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a swap deal including Tanguy Ndombele.
Meanwhile, the Inter Milan defender remains adamant of turning his fortunes around in the Internazionale shirt. Skriniar is understood to have turned down an opportunity to join Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.
Seizing the moment, Manchester United have placed a minimal interest in Milan Skriniar to Inter officials. The 25-year-old is set to be weighing up the prospect of featuring at the Theatre of Dreams but his priority remains to stay with the Serie A club.

"Among the clubs he has been associated with, perhaps only Paris Saint-Germain would be to his total satisfaction. Cold towards Tottenham, lukewarm towards Manchester United, his first choice is still Inter. In fact, Skriniar does not have a move on his agenda, but the desire to continue wearing the Nerazzurri shirt and stay in Milan where he is perfectly happy. Manchester United, themselves, are scouring the transfer market to attain a central defender to add competition besides Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Eric Bailly for a starting spot. The Red Devils’ pursuit of Dayot Upamecano seems to bear no dividend as RB Leipzig are set to block any offers for the French centre-back this summer.
In terms of departure, Chris Smalling looks set to seal a permanent move to AS Roma after a successful loan spell in the Italy capital. Phil Jones, too, has attracted interest from Newcastle United.
