Liverpool chiefs are trying hard to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer.
Manchester United have established initial contacts with the agents of Thiago Alcantara, who is seeking a new challenge after helping Bayern Munich to a treble last season. Thus far, Liverpool has led the race to secure the signing of the Spanish midfielder.
Thiago Alcantara signed for Bayern Munich from Barcelona in 2013. During his seven seasons with the Bavarian giants, the midfielder has won the Bundesliga on each occasion and attained the eluded Champions League accolade recently.
After a trophy-laden spell in Germany, Thiago, 29, is keen to test himself in a different environment in what could be his last high-profile assignment. In terms of quality, the Spaniard owns a unique set of skills to add to his immaculate vision, ranking among the best in the trade.
Jurgen Klopp has expressed an interest in Thiago Alcantara and cites the midfielder’s panache as the only dimension that could elevate the standards of the Liverpool squad. Despite the admiration, the Merseysiders are yet to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich over the €30million transfer fee.
It is understood that Liverpool are continuing their dialogues with Bayern Munich but will place an official bid once they raise funds via player sales. Regardless of the impasse, Jurgen Klopp remains in pole position to acquire his long-term target but he is not the only suitor for Thiago.
