Man United: Solskjaer identifies Valencia striker as ideal Anthony Martial competition
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United struggle to sign players this summer continues.
Manchester United are keeping constant tabs on Valencia striker Maxi Gomez, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes quality in depth before his squad starts to compete on all fronts. It is understood that the Red Devils have maintained their interest in the forward since January when Marcus Rashford suffered an injury.
Anthony Martial, who has repaid Solskjaer’s faith by scoring 23 goals as a central striker last season, is yet to become a world-class forward who could be relied upon on a consistent basis. To increase his output further, United are planning to add another flourishing striker into the squad.
Maxi Gomez has made steady progress at Valencia since his move from Celta Vigo last summer. The Uruguay international managed 14 goal contributions for Los Che during the 2019/20 campaign. United’s scouting team has recommended the striker to Solskjaer on multiple occasions.
Valencia are forced to sell majority of their first-team players as owner Peter Lim suffers unprecedented financial losses. Thus far, Los Murcelagos have managed to cull Dani Parejo, Ferran Torres, Francis Coquelin, and Rodrigo off their record books. Only skipper Jose Gaya is understood to be immune to the selling spree.
