Dean Henderson has emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has signed an improved long-term contract with the club to fend off interest from a host of top European sides. The new deal ties the English shot-stopper at Old Trafford at least five seasons, with an option to extend it by further 12 months.

Before agreeing to the terms of the new contract, Dean Henderson was intensely monitored by Chelsea. Frank Lampard wants to sign a goalkeeper to replace underperforming Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Regarding Henderson’s extension, the club released an official statement which goes as follows;

"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Dean Henderson has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year.Henderson, who has been named in the England squad for the upcoming September internationals, is a product of United’s Academy and has been at the club since the age of 14."

The 23-year-old has made fantastic progress on his loan spell at Sheffield United for the past two seasons. During the previous campaign, Henderson managed 13 clean sheets in the Premier League, establishing himself among the country’s best. He was joint third with Alisson, de Gea, Schmeichel, and Patrício.

Henderson happy to be home

After penning the new deal Dean Henderson expressed his happiness by saying: “The pathway that I have been on for the past five years has been fantastic for my development and the invaluable loan period at Sheffield United has been part of that.”

“I’ll be giving everything to improve every day so that I can play as many games as possible for this great club. Now I am looking forward to joining up with the England squad and then preparing for the season ahead.” – Henderson continued.

Despite the Blades’ wish to keep Dean Henderson on loan for one more year, Manchester United decided against sanctioning a temporary move away from Old Trafford this summer. Meanwhile, Sheffield United signed Aaron Ramsdale to shore up the goalkeeping department.

More from Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Henderson to compete with David de Gea for the number one spot. It could also be a spurring factor for the Spanish keeper who has suffered a downslide of form in the last few months. It could also mean Sergio Romero is no longer an important asset for Man United and is on his way out.

Under the current deal, Dean Henderson is set to earn £120,000 a week, making him one of the best-paid goalkeepers around the globe.

Talking contract extensions, Paul Pogba could be the next in the queue to pen a new deal at Man United after being convinced by Solskjaer’s long-term project. But, that could take some time as the Red Devils’ priority remains in utilising the transfer market efficiently.

Currently, Manchester United are focussed on signing Jadon Sancho but the dialogues are running at a soporific pace. Meanwhile, the Reds’ bosses have continued working on other deals, namely David Brooks and Benoit Badiashile.

AS Monaco have rejected United’s opening offer of 25 million euros for Badiashile. However, Ed Woodward is expected to make an improved offer for the defensive talent.
