Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to add depth and quality to his squad.

After a long period of dormancy, Manchester United’s summer business could finally kick-off as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his squad jet off to a much-awaited break. While the playing contingent recharges their batteries ahead of the next season, the onus is on the board members to inject quality with shrewd investments this summer.

Talking about Man United’s transfer developments, Jadon Sancho emerges by default. Despite a firm interest to land the English prodigy at Old Trafford, the deal has hit a deadlock with involved factions failing to reach consensus over the transfer fees.

Dortmund, who constantly mention Sancho is “not up for sale”, are willing to part company with the 20-year-old, should the Man United bosses present a €120million offer. But, the Red Devils are unwilling to spend such a sizeable amount on one player, considering the economic status quo.

Nonetheless, the dialogues are still in progress, with many hoping for a hasty resolution to a saga which has dragged on for months. With sporting commitments at a halt, the transfer proceedings could pick up some serious pace.

Citing the needs of Solskjaer, the United bosses are working on several attainable deals while continuing the negotiations for Sancho. In one such case, Ed Woodward has cracked a signing in AFC Bournemouth’s David Brooks, seemingly. The deal could be around £40m.

More from Manchester United

Going by the suggestions, Manchester United chiefs have been holding intense talks with Bournemouth counterparts for the signing of the emerging Welsh prospect. It is understood that talks are advancing at a rapid pace and a breakthrough could be reached soon.

"Manchester United interest in David Brooks is rather more serious than widely assumed, Sport Witness has been informed, and there could even be developments relatively quickly. The Reds aren’t currently being strongly linked to players by the media outside of England, and Brooks interest could be the reason for that. Brooks has been suggested in various reports as an alternative to Jadon Sancho for the Premier League club."

The signing of Brooks, if it happens, aligns with Solskjaer’s vision of recruiting an emerging player who could be moulded to suit the style at Manchester United. However, the suggestions of the 23-year-old to be a Sancho alternative seems far-fetched, going by how desperate United are.

Certainly, the youngster’s acquisition would add some strength in depth for Solskjaer and Brooks’ quality would be an upgrade on current backups, Andreas Periera and Jesse Lingard, who seem to be on borrowed time at the club.

Do you think David Brooks would be a good addition for Manchester United?
