Newcastle is working with speed and sensibility in the transfer market as they edge closer to another signing this summer.
After ending their Premier League 2019/20 season in the 13th position as they did in their 2018/19 season under Rafa Benitez, Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their side in the transfer window.
Under Steve Bruce, Newcastle United couldn’t improve much but had a stable season. Few of their signings failed to impress much like that of Joelinton, whereas Allan Saint-Maximin made fans sit on the edges of the seat. With the transfer window open, Magpies are all set to sign Jeff Hendrick of Burnley who is currently available on a Bosman transfer.

The former Burnley player, Jeff Hendrick, underwent a medical at St. James Park after the player turned down a contract extension by Burnley. Though the player didn’t get any playing minutes under Sean Dyche since March, it is believed that his off-field antiques lured Newcastle United to sign him.
The 28-year-old is a free agent after not signing the contract at Clarets. The player was signed by Sean Dyche in 2016 for a club-record fee of £10.6 million. The Ireland international has appeared 139 times for Sean Dyche’s men with 10 goals and seven assists. In the stop-start season, Jeff Hendrick has two goals and two assists to his name in 24 appearances.
Jeff Hendrick is yet to be formally signed by the Magpies but the player is all set to become the second summer signing for Steve Bruce. Newcastle United acquired the services of Mark Gillespie as a new third-choice goalkeeper who was also a free agent. The player arrived just before last season concluded.
After the much-awaited Saudi takeover of Newcastle United fell through, the Toon Army is recovering from the body blow. There were talks of Mauricio Pochettino taking over the reins from Steve Bruce if the takeover had happened. Adding to this, several high profile players like Ciro Immobile of Lazio were linked with the Tyneside outfit during the takeover talks.
Can the signing of a player who averages 5 G/A a season reinvigorate Newcastle, who are looking for inspiration? The stats might be deceptive but if there are no quality signings, Newcastle United might find themselves in the relegation battle next season.
