Scott McTominay signed a new deal with Manchester United, extending his stay till 2025. His hard work is still paying off.

The midfielder has been rewarded with the best gift post-COVID-19. It was announced yesterday Scott McTominay has signed a contract extension with the club he loves most. This proves hard work does pay off.

"Scott McTominay has signed a new contract which will keep him at Manchester United until June 2025, with the option to extend for a further year."

The Scottsman has made himself quite the addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s Man United side. When fit, his name is the first on the teamsheet. When injured, the struggles in the middle of the park are evident.

It comes as no surprise really that the club has voted and acted swiftly to tie him down long-term. However, there are many who would agree the player is easily replaceable. I beg to differ though.

Scott is not easy on the eye

More from Manchester United

McTominay is not easy on the eye and he is no Lionel Messi with the ball at his feet. Whatever he lacks in style or elegance, he makes up for in abundance in basic football. That’s right, he does the basics to the T.

Players who do the basics well, and keeps practising at them, become indispensable to their club. We take James Milner and Jordan Henderson at United’s rivals, Liverpool, for an example. The duo is often criticised for not being the best in the game, yet Jurgen Klopp persists on picking them in the starting 11.

Their basic ball while being surrounded by others with flair has proven to be a deadly and a winning formula. Something that has also come to light at Old Trafford. As previously mentioned, the team ticks when McTominay is picked. What these players remind me of is the little key ring that keeps all the keys together. With other this, your keys are all over the place or missing.

"Whilst I understand that we all have so many other things to think about at the moment, I’m so happy to sign this contract and play a part in the future ahead for this team. All I have ever known is United and I hope that my passion for the club shows every time I go onto the pitch. I’ll continue to give everything for this club whenever I pull on the shirt. I want to thank the manager for the faith he has shown in me and everyone at the club that has helped me to get where I am today. (Via: Sky Sports)"

Embodying the Untied way

The young man grafts hard and leaves everything out on the pitch. He barely leaves anything for chance and scarcely pulls out of a challenge. Being a product of the academy, he follows in the footsteps of those who were very successful in the past and came up through the ranks.

He wants to be at the club so much, he would pay his own wages just to pull on the United shirt. This man’s basic ball has put him ahead of others in the pecking order. It will continue if he continues to put in the work.
