The Great Dane – Daniel Agger

Duration: 2006 – 2014
Appearances: 232 (All competitions)
Current team: Retired

The Danish defender was what you would call a “smooth operator” on the pitch. Agger had the excellent ability to read the game and was able to carry the ball out of defence, something which has become the norm for the current centre-backs of today. Agger would have fitted perfectly into a system like Jurgen Klopp’s, as he’s the kind of manager who wants these qualities in a defender.

It’s a pity the Danish International suffered more and more injuries towards the end of his career at Liverpool, nonetheless, he had a class about him on and off the ball. After leaving the Reds, Agger went back to his home club Brøndby in Denmark where he eventually retired.

The most memorable moment for most fans would be his stunning long-range strike against Blackburn Rovers back in 2009 where they won 4-0. Agger scored the third goal of the match. The Dane served Liverpool for eight years and was definitely a fan favourite.
