Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s real Man United test comes in the new season
Solskjaer’s rebuild of Man United will take another step forward this summer as they edge closer to becoming title contenders again.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enters probably the most testing period as a manager when the new Premier League season kicks off. Yes, there is nothing that will quite top COVID-19 and the effect it’s had on the world, but time is ticking and the fans are going to want results from Ole.
Although, with this being said, you must acknowledge how well the Old Trafford crowd has warmed up to him, as well as the players under his stewardship. It took them all rather a long time to heat up towards him, but for justifiable reasons.
Now more than ever, he will be judged the most as he faces his toughest time during his Manchester United reign.
Time with the club
After 11 years of service as a player, he now returns as a manager to try to enjoy the same success with the club he loves so much and holds so close to his heart. Since joining up as the caretaker back on 19 December 2018, many gave him no chance of survival.
Following his appointment, he made a couple of moves in the transfer window, some early and some quite delayed. The latter affected him and the club’s results the most. Thankfully, once they included their first-choice targets, everything started to improve.
When the season concludes, it will also bring forth the completion of Ole’s first full season in charge. And quite frankly, not many thought he would last this long. What comes next, will be the one that determines his future, and whether it will be a long one or a short one.
If/when they add the last few pieces to the puzzle that’s been missing for coherent seasons, they will be expected to compete with their eternal rivals and noisy neighbours.

After Man United was the club to spend the most money out of all the Premier League clubs last summer, the first bit of pressure was mounted on Solskjaer. Now the times are exciting, as exciting as opening a bunch of new gifts on your birthday.
All the prezzies are too good to name which one is the best out of the lot. Jadon Sancho, long-term megamoney transfer and what’s supposed to be their next Christiano Ronaldo signing. Most recently, the Manchester club has entered talks with Bayern Munich’s 25-year-old midfielder, Corentin Tolisso.
Add another fullback and centre back in there somewhere, that would be considered a treble of successful transfer windows, starting with the Aaron Wan-Bissaka summer. But now the boss must show the goods after the club showed the money. He must build on their Manchester derby double.
Take more than a point from the most decorated English game, where they play their oldest foes, Liverpool. Play football that’s not always enjoyable but the results are the right ones to sit in around the top three, top two, or even at the tip of the league standings.
This is the weight on the Norwegian’s shoulders come 2020-2021. No matter the players they bring in, they must be competing on all fronts, and no less. The bar has been set high by his own short-term success. It will be a ride or die season where Ole must throw the kitchen sink at every playing event.
He has the tools and is getting improved ones as well, where do you see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking United next season? Supposing they make all their priority signings.
