Testing, Testing, Testing

The Premier League and the Bundesliga have both carried out rigorous testing, and this needs to continue.

As of writing this, the Premier League’s positive test rate is low amongst players and staff, which is a big boost to the prospect of the league returning.

On the 26th and 27th of May, 1008 tests were carried out, with four positive tests across three clubs. The low positive rate has allowed the league to continue to move towards resumption, but as contact training is brought in, testing needs to continue.

The risks increase with each additional step towards the return, and if the safety of the players and staff cannot be guaranteed, the season needs to be scrapped.

Some players, such as N’golo Kante and Troy Deeney, have already said they do not feel comfortable returning to training, and the Premier League is on a very tight timeline with regards to completing the season.

They cannot afford another long layoff if the season is to be completed.
