Premier League: Can Mario Gotze Find A New Home in England?
Two Premier League clubs could use Mario Gotze’s talents the most.
Newly promoted and suddenly dangerous Sheffield United may be an excellent landing spot for a player who has played at the highest level for club and country.
Blades’ manager Chris Wilder could use a creative ball-handler and passer with experience like Gotze to use in his overlapping system that brings midfielders wide on the attack. The club is also 16th in shot-creating actions per 90 minutes and 17th in key passes.
For a club with eyes set on European competition, Gotze presents as a talented and experienced asset to provide depth and creative playmaking. However, the Foxes of Leicester City may be the best fit for Gotze.
The club is in a position to qualify again for the Champions League, a competition that the player is well-acquainted with. Gotze has played in 70 matches in European competition in his career.

The best fit for Gotze
Though the club is one of the best in the Premier League in creating goalscoring opportunities, they lack quality playmakers in depth. With the likelihood of European play on the horizon, the Foxes could use Mario’s experience and skill.
The Foxes only have two players, James Maddison (who could be at Manchester United next season) and Harvey Barnes, averaging more than three shot-creating actions per match. They have only one player, Barnes, whose goal creating actions per 90 minutes rating is higher than 0.45.
The mentality and philosophy of Leicester City, as demonstrated in their title run in 2015-16 and again this season is their ability to effectively utilize players that other clubs may have overlooked or cast aside.
The club is a mid-level club with top six facilities and staff. The Foxes also have a highly experienced and effective manager whose tactics and man-management skills are also a great fit for Mario.
The good news for Mario Gotze is that his acquisition presents Premier League clubs with a low risk-high reward scenario as a free transfer. In these uncertain times, this is a win-win.
