The Newcastle transformation begins. A close friend of Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed there is a lucrative deal being placed on the table for his services.

A few days ago it was reported all was good and well in the “Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test”, almost validating the sale of Mike Ashley’s Newcastle to Amanda Staveley and her team Saudi.

This despite the late calls from human rights activists and then, later on, broadcasting partners, BeIN Sport, to block the sale altogether. Thankfully for the Toon army, this has been laid to rest with the upcoming week holding the defining moment, where we can officially say Newcastle has been freed from the shackles of Mike Ashley.

More from Newcastle

A close friend of Poch and Argentina legend, Ossie Ardiles, states there is a strong possibility the ex-Spurs boss could make the move over to St. James’ Park and is the favourite to land the job.

"The Spurs icon confirmed a “good offer” has been made to take his close friend Pochettino to St James’ Park – and it is a “firm possibility” he will join the MagpiesMauricio had a (contractual) relationship with Tottenham, but last Tuesday his situation was unlocked and he is free to coach. In this way, he will hear offers again, but Newcastle is a firm possibility to work again. He will take his time to think and wait a little for all this to happen. Easy to predict off the bat

It appears this one was almost too easy to predict off the bat. From the day “Project Zebra” was made public, the first mention was Steve Bruce and his time at St. James’ Park. It is no secret the Englishman will now have to prove his worth to the potentially new owners, with little hope remaining he will hold onto the post.

Following the first thought of poor old Bruce was who would come in and take the Magpies to the next level. One name popped up and has remained throughout the process of the Newcastle takeover. That name being Mauricio Pochettino.

Steve Bruce living in denial

In an interview with Sky Sports, Steve believed he has what it takes to go all the way with Newcastle and is the right man for the job. Sadly, we know this is not true when comparing others that have done a lot with a little.

Put his CV up against Mauricio’s and it will be a good battle, but Mauricio has been managing at the top level, showing more consistency than the man whose job is under threat now. Taking recent campaigns into account and there’s almost no contest between the two men.

Mauricio took Spurs to four consecutive Champions League finishes, ending as high second and fourth in the Premier League standings. Last season saw him go his furthest ever in his career, making it all the way to the Champions League final, losing 2-0 to Liverpool.

To be honest, the prospect of the two men working together at Newcastle sounds a better one. The two could form a formidable partnership and lead the club back to greatness. However, the latter deal would be up to bruce. Will he take a backseat for Poch?
