Man United: Matic’s late form merits him with a contract extension
Man United have “triggered” the one-year extension in Nemanja Matic‘s contract deal. This comes as a surprise with the player heavily taunted for a move away from Old Trafford during the January window.
Man United are said to be in talks with midfielder, Nemanja Matic. As per Sky Sports, the club has “exercised” the option to extend his current deal for an additional year. The deal was set to run the end of the season, which would have made him a free agent in the summer.
Now he will stay on for another season keeping him at the club till 2021. Adding to the good news, the Serbian is in discussion with the club for a new deal entirely.

A small revelation for the Serbian
Matic is a prime example of how quick things can change in football. When you work hard, it sometimes pays off in the best ways. In this case, hard work paid off in the most pleasing manner possible. Matic was certainly a player on the fringe at United
During the first few weeks of the campaign, he was not a player who really cemented his spot in the team for the season or foreseeable future. But thanks to a string of great performances just before the latest pandemic, he has been rewarded with a contract extension, which soon could turn into a renewal.
Nemanja Matic Stats
- Games played – 21 Games
- Goals – 1 Goal
- Assists – 1 Assist
- Pass Accuracy – 86%
United’s draw against Everton at Goodison Park was arguably one his best for the season. He helped secure Ole a point when he assisted Bruno Fernandes‘ sublime goal from outside the box.
He could have scored on the day but was denied by the crossbar. The aforementioned plus his well-struck finish against Man City in the EFL Cup semifinal are what you can get from an inform Matic.
The club’s right to extend his stay if he is happy to be a backup midfielder to whoever comes in ahead of him. There is no way he will be forcing his way into the team as a consecutive starter. Who should United reward next with a contract renewal?
With business the front and centre of all clubs we should expect to see a lot of deals get done. Contract extensions or new additions who will join in the summer transfer window will heat up.
