Southampton lose another defender after Yoshida joins Sampdoria
Ralph Hasenhüttl is gambling with life at the moment after watching another defender depart today. Yoshida gets his move away from St. Marys.
Early today Arsenal was proud to announce the arrival of fullback Cedric Soares, however, it appears not only Arsenal was happy to get their man. It appears the Saints were equally joyful about the movement.
Move on several hours and Southampton proclaim they have parted ways with long-standing servant, Maya Yoshida. That’s two defenders out while having only Kyle Walker-Peters come in for them. Dangerous but essential.
It is said he will join Italian side Sampdoria until the season end and is another player out of contract come that time. Like Soares, he will see out the remainder of his deal with the Saints at his adopted club. From there they will both still be a free agent.

The central defender needed the move to go off more than the Saints. They were just happy to get him off the books and start refreshing a squad that has been underperformance season after season. It’s only now that the club has come out of a massive slump and collected a string of positive results.
But the dead weight at the club must go. Unfortunately, the once trustworthy centre back who had eight years at St. Mary’s become of no use to the club. A move to Sampdoria is the only option.
The club has openly admitted to this and feel the deal goes down by mutual consent. At 31 years of age, it’s clear to see what the manager wants at the club. Out with the old and in with the new. He had a good run and eight years of service is no small feat.

Yoshida owns a Premier League record
The Japanese can leave the Premier League knowing he came, he saw and conquered. It’s time for him to make his mark on the Italian Serie A, and hopefully, he has enough left in his tank to add another 100 appearances for Sampdoria.

Good luck to a player of the old decade. The retirement Serie A is looking more competitive with each new face they add from the Premier League.
