It was only a matter of time before we saw the exit of Marcos Rojo from Man United. The centre back has had a tough time at the club and it was getting any better for him in England.

Time was ticking for Marcos Rojo. Bad injury spells and having trouble finding form in between those injuries became the demise of the defender’s time in Manchester. A promising athletic player trying to follow in the footsteps of Gabriel Heinze.

The Argentine international leaves England and returns to his hometown to rejoin his boyhood club, Club Estudiantes de La Plata, on loan until the end of the season. Sometimes finding your grassroots can get your growth going again.

More from Manchester United

"You always return to the places where you were happy because the sense of belonging is stronger. Your dream and that of the Pincha Family come true. We meet again in ONE. Welcome and thanks for coming back, Marcos! We welcome you with an open heart! (Via: @EdelpOficial)"

Time on the pitch for Rojo?

Rojo only made nine appearances for the Manchester club this term. Of those nine showings, only three were Premier League showings, with two of them having him come off from the bench. There have been 2160 minutes of football played from the 24 matchdays in the Premier League, Marcos worryingly only played 122 minutes of them.

His most time on the pitch came in United’s European outings on Thursday nights. There too, did he only feature in 50% of the games. Not needed for a player at the age of 29-years-old.

Does this leave Man United thin

Ole has already lost experienced player, Ashley Young, and now has to deal with life without the service of Marcos Rojo. A fullback and a centre back ticked off absent with no return, so where does this leave Ole?

In exactly the same position as before they were gone. Using the kids/youth at the club and giving them the time on the pitch needed appears to be the project at the moment. A fit backline has only seen 29 goals conceded, plus accumulating four clean sheets.

This was mostly done without the aiding of the aforementioned departed. Scoring and creativity were lacking more for the manager. That’s what he needed to be fixed first.
