2. Matteo Guendouzi – Midfield

It has been a meteoric rise to stardom for 20-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, who joined Arsenal last summer for just £7 million, and has since become one of the only shining lights in the entire team. His performances this season overall have been fantastic, and he is not only Arsenal’s best midfielder, but a genuine leader on the pitch, especially when they are in need of someone to push the team on.

From losing positions this season Guendouzi has been influential, almost single-handedly turning matches around (vs Spurs and Villa at home). These are the exact types of performances that have earned him some serious attention from around the footballing world, and he has now been a part of the World Cup-winning France national team system in back-to-back international breaks, as well as being nominated for both the Golden Boy award and Kopa Trophy.

Guendouzi is well on his way to becoming a world-class player, and this is certainly looking to be his breakout season.

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Striker

Boy, where would Arsenal be this season without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? Mid-table? Maybe even lower than 14th placed Spurs? I think it’s definitely possible, and it’s also no coincidence that Arsenal’s form started to dip right when Aubameyang’s rapid and deadly early-season form started faltering a little bit. If he’s not scoring, it seems Arsenal aren’t picking up points, and that’s a very, very dangerous situation to be relying on over the course of a long football season.

From an individual perspective though, Aubameyang might be playing his best football since joining Arsenal, and fresh off a golden boot victory last year, his quality is still there and he is still head and shoulders above the rest of the players on his team.

He is also now the captain of the club, less than 2 years after joining the team, which is certainly telling of the influence he has had on and off the pitch.

While his drop in form of late has certainly made things more difficult for one-dimensional Arsenal, there’s no denying that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been their best player this season by a comfortable margin.
