During the summer transfer window, it was almost certain Jadon Sancho would return to England and was said to be close to a move to Manchester United. Which has now been said to be false claims.

The Englishman who has gone from nowhere to the hottest English prospect is Jadon Sancho. He made his appeal to fame with a string of brilliant displays for Germany’s Borussia Dortmund. The winger took leave from Manchester City in 2017, in a bid to play at the highest level more frequently.

He received his playing time and rewarded his new club with many memorable moments. Last season alone the 19-year-old capped off his Bundesliga campaign with 12 goals and 14 assists in the 34 appearances.

More from Manchester United

Coupled with this was his outstanding Champions League debut where he helped BVB to a Round of 16 finish. This then latter led to an England call-up and a ton of phone calls from across Europe. Most notably, Manchester United.

Or so they say…

It was no secret and the owner of the club spoke freely about it when interviewed.

Rumours suggested a deal was close

Man United, Liverpool, and even Arsenal were all rumoured to be in intense talks with BVB to get the England international in their ranks. However, nothing materialised and he stayed in Germany beyond the summer window. Furthermore, when speaking to the Dortmund boss, he let the world know Man United were the furthest from getting the star player.

Making matter worse for Man United

What made it harder for United to get a deal over the line, there was no Champions League football to offer, only Europa League. Hence why the Red Devils fought so hard to try to get to the finals in Madrid.

A host of transfers incoming were depended on them making the biggest stage in Europe. This too in return, made Jadon Sancho’s decision easier. Choose to stay in Germany where his football is peaking to a higher level each season? Or, choose to play in a side finding their feet in the toughest league on the planet, and playing second fiddle football?

Before Zorc’s words

It is said Ole Gunnar is prepared to wait till next summer for the capture of Sancho. To me, however, I think the player is prepared to wait till next summer. He’s playing in a better competition (UCL) than any United player. There’s no real rush for him to join unless it’s their neighbours, Man City.
