Surprise, surprise. Not a single person saw West Ham here in a Premier League top five post. However, a better start to life under Pellegrini has called for a fifth-place spot. (W2;D1;L1)

The Hammers could have very well found themselves in the worst team category after a hiding handed to them by Man City on opening day. Thankfully, for all of the Irons, Manual Pellegrini lost a lot of sleep after getting battered by his old club.

He came up with a plan to see his team produce a better brand of football and they delivered as each week wore on. From no goals scored on the first day and dismally letting in five on the other end, things soon improved.

Since then, they managed to keep one clean sheet, while only letting in two goals over the last three games. A tally of six goals has been put up by West Ham, which has helped them collect seven points from the 12 points played for.

Best stat

Believe it or not… The Hammers have been far more constructive when hitting the nail on the head. They boast the most efficient attack over four games. They’ve recorded 47 shots at goal with 24 of them being on target. Giving them 51% per cent accuracy.

They’ve put in six at the same time, with the hits that were true. Behind them Man City (30/70 shots on target; 37% accuracy). Then Liverpool and Chelsea (25/77 shots on target; 35.7% accuracy). (via: WHUFC.com)

Strongest Hammers

Their best goalscorer has undoubtedly been the new target man, Sebastien Haller. New signing and the silver lining after losing wantaway, Marko Arnautovic.

Most influential player and great to have him back. Hope he can go on for a long period and stay fit is Manuel Lanzini. The Argentine has the most completed passes with 198 passes.

  • Games played – 4
  • Mins played – 358

West Ham’s next test comes in the shape of Aston Villa, the re-entries. Hopefully, there’s no steam lost because of the international break and they continue to gain ground. Villa Park rocked in Villa’s last home fixture. Let’s see if Pellegrini can knock that rock to sleep.
