Top Pick

Abdoulaye Doucoure (MID, 6.0m)

Deulofeu will get more attention due to his output last year and reclassification, but I think the consistency of Doucoure makes him the more attractive prospect. He rarely gets rested or subbed off and he has recorded 11 and 12 attacking returns in the last 2 seasons. Given their strong opening 4 fixtures, he could be a great option to pad out your midfield.

Differential Pick

Troy Deeney (FWD, 6.5m)

As I said for Doucoure, Deulofeu is getting more attention, but I think his strike partner Deeney should be in more teams. He gets more consistent game time, rarely gets taken off and would have scored more points than Deulofeu if you take into account the change in position (1 point fewer for a goal and no clean sheet points would have seen him drop to 114).

Defensive Pick

Kiko Femenia (DEF, 4.5m)

It looks like Femenia has taken the right-back spot back from Janmaat during preseason, which is good news for FPL managers. He is less of a yellow card magnet than Janmaat but still offers occasional attacking threat (a goal and an assist in each of the last 2 seasons). In reality, a Watford defender should be fairly low down your list of priorities, but if you want to get him in on a rotation then you could do worse!

Steer Clear

Etienne Capoue (MID, 5.0m)

He was a darling of FPL for a very brief period in 2016/17 as he exploded into the season with a lot of goals. However, they have dried up since then and in the last 2 years, he has reverted to the natural state of CDM, with more yellow cards than goals in each season.
