Transfer News: West Ham tries to steal Andre Gomes for £18m from Barcelona
West Ham United is the newest of English Premier League clubs to be in for the Portuguese and Barcelona midfielder, Andre Gomes.
Before reports, it was certain Tottenham was the team leading the race for Gomes and only two teams were in the running for the wantaway player. Those two clubs rumoured to be in for the mid man were Everton and Tottenham.
Initial reports stated the Blues of Merseyside were about to lose out on the signature of Andre to Champions League finalist, Spurs. The North London club, who did not make a single signing since last year January, was about to open the treasure chest for new recruits.

After making it all the way to Madrid for the final against Liverpool and the season concluded for the 2018-19 campaign, it was suggested Mauricio will get unlimited backing by the board. Of these funds, £30m was to sort out the transfer of Barcelona midfielder, Andre Gomes.
News outlets continued with the story by saying as soon as the summer window opened, Barca would happily accept an official bid from Tottenham as soon as it was submitted. This all appears to be wide of the mark.
West Ham has bid rejected
What was a two-way battle is now a triangular series involving Everton, West Ham, and Tottenham. All three clubs look ready to work day and night to acquire the signature of Gomes.
Sky Sports broke the news a bid in the region of £18m from the Hammers was rejected by Gomes’ suitors, Barcelona. Manuel Pellegrini will be looking to redo all the wrongs from his maiden campaign as the West London boss.
Starting by getting rid of all the injury-prone players and replacing them with stronger, athletic footballs, able to finish a season without missing a game. This opening gambit is a bit of a laugh from the Hammers.
If they are to match any of the others striving for the Portuguese player, they will have to up their £18m on the table. The Spanish side wants closer to £30m, and the player wants European football.
Only one of the trio can offer Andre Gomes this and that’s Spurs. If Pellegrini wants his target, they must cough up the funds!
