Premier League: Liverpool versus Burnley preview
By John Wozniak
The Liverpool versus Burnley fixture hasn’t been kind to the Clarets. Liverpool have won nine of their last 11 home matches against Burnley in all competitions, drawing the other two, since a 1-0 loss in September 1974.

We can forgive Liverpool fans for feeling anxious about their title chances, the stalemate at Goodison Park wasn‘t the result anyone wanted. Liverpool’s poor away form has contributed to Liverpool’s current league position. Mohamed Salah is struggling for form. The Liverpool No.9 hasn‘t scored in four games. Forwards go through dry spells in front of goal, a goal on Sunday will boost Salah’s confidence.
One player in form is Virgil van Dijk. The Liverpool No.4 is arguably playing better than any defender in world football right now. van Dijk has been a rock at the heart of a Liverpool defence looking for their sixth consecutive clean sheet. van Dijk gave his take on the title race.
"You just need to stay calm. There are nine games left and anything is possible. I think a lot of people forget there’s a quarter of the season to go. One point is not a lot, but it is something because it’s Man City. We’ll see. The next challenge for us is Burnley and it’s going to be a tough one, so we’ll see after that how it is going to be. It’s very important to get a win against Burnley. At this stage, it’s the most important thing – to get the three points. It doesn’t really matter how, but we want to show good football as well (via liverpoolfc.com)."
Klopp suffered an injury blow yesterday when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was substituted during Liverpool‘s U-23 fixture against Derby County. Oxlade-Chamberlain has been battling to regain fitness since sustaining an injury in last season’s Champions League semi-final.
Burnley’s recent defeats have been disappointing, especially after picking up three points at home to Spurs. Dyche can‘t do much more than to believe in his side’s ability to pick-up points and avoid relegation to the Championship. The Burnley manager says that he’s not interested in having a say on the title race.
Trust me, we are not interested in having a say in the title race; we are interested in getting points on the table. It’s not for us to decide who does what, but if we can win on Sunday it will be about us getting more points on the table and nothing more. Every manager looks after himself and we still have work to do.
Veteran, Peter Crouch returns to Anfield to face his former club, where made over 140 appearances, scoring over 42 goals.
The Burnley duo of Ashley Barnes (9) and Chris Wood (7) have been in good form of late. Burnley’s last nine league goals have been scored by either Barnes or Wood.
Liverpool Team News: James Milner is a doubt. Dejan Lovren could be in contention for the matchday squad.
Burnley Team news: Steven Defour and Aaron Lennon are both out for Burnley
